Before writing this blog I asked a member of my team, a linguist, what inspired her to study languages? She replied as follows:
“Languages are a passion of mine and have proved to be invaluable in my chosen career in travel.
“Why did I choose to study French and Spanish at year 10? The answer’s simple. My fabulous teacher! I know it sounds cheesy but she really was an inspiration, geeing me up when things got tough.
“My fondest memory at school was our trip to France. It gave me the perfect opportunity to fine-tune my newly acquired language skills. I remember my friends and I loved trying to dupe the locals into believing we were French. At the time we thought we’d got away with it, but now I’m not so sure.
“The trip was wonderful. My friends and I really bonded and we got to know our teachers too! The experience certainly helped give me the confidence to ask my teachers for their help when I needed it over the following years.
“That trip to France whetted my appetite for more adventures. I went on to study French and Hispanic Studies at university and had a great year in Spain. Now I enjoy organising inspirational tours for MFL school groups from all over the UK.”
If you or your colleagues are planning an overseas study tour my team and I would be delighted to discuss your ideas and organise an unforgettable experience.
Whether the language being taught is German, French, Spanish or Italian, StudyTrips can arrange a visit to the country in question for you and your students.
Furthermore, if you are offering Latin GCSE we can arrange a visit to Rome for students to see the key locations relating to the heart of the Republic and Empire.
As a final benefit you’ll find that the impact of a study trip as part of the MFL or Latin course doesn’t end there, for the positive impact can roll on as students make their A level choices.
